Performance evaluation of waste tires in protecting embankment against earthquake loading

The motivation of this study stems from a retaining wall made waste tires. did not suffer any earthquake or tsunami-induced damage during the 2011 Off Pacific Coast Tohoku Earthquake, Japan. This paper deals with case on tire wall. Results series field and laboratory investigations are first described. A numerical simulation is also described in which whole tires were used as protective layers an embankment. results show that confining effect each tire, friction between tires, ductility, damping inherent contribute towards excellent performance loading. reveals it isolation mechanism due to vibration absorption capability rubber particles could protect structure earthquake.
